What We Do
Christmas for Kids

In 2012 we picked our first school for a Christmas for Kids experience.

We were not expecting this day to open our eyes to the things we take for granted it was a very humbling experience for our staff and committee.

This is what our Christmas experience day looks like. We load a van in the morning , all the supplies need for the day and a gift box for each child consisting of essentials the children would most likely need; mittens, toques, socks, scarves, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and of course, a lot of fun things too, supplies and toys  ( cost per box is approximately $35.00 to $40.00) each box is gender and grade appropriate: Kindergarten to Grade 3 and Grade 4 to 6, some of the schools we have attended had a 100 Voices Program (pre-kindergarten) which we supply a gift box for them as well. (Our largest school was 402 students)

When we get to the school, we unload, set up tables and chairs, with tablecloths, napkins etc.   We serve the students, teachers, and staff a hot lunch. We have done pancakes, sausages, fruit, and we have done McDonalds. Both well received by all. After lunch we take down and prepare the gym for the live entertainment, Santa shows up, and then the best part, the reveal of the gift boxes, the noise level of excitement from the students is one you will never forget. We get to interact with the students while they go through their boxes, their appreciation (“this is all for me” comment) puts a smile on our faces.
Once we have picked our school, we start our fundraising and shopping. Our biggest fundraiser is our Annual Golf Tournament which is put together by a handful of KDM Management Staff who are outstanding at what they do and our tournament is sold out within days, a BIG shout out to them. We are thankful for the generosity of our Contractors; without them this day would not be possible.

The time and effort of our Committee to make this day possible and is just part of what we can give back to the community, is worth it all, to see the pure joy and excitement on the students face. What we take away from the day keeps us wanting to make the next year even better.

Sincerely,
Pat

Holiday Hampers

Back in 2014, KDM Helping Hands had opened the opportunity to try and bring a better experience for struggling families around holidays and the idea to make 5 holiday hampers for Thanksgiving was brought forward.  This hamper would include everything needed to make a holiday supper one less thing for a struggling family to worry about.  The Board quickly agreed upon a fantastic spread which included turkeys, vegetables, potatoes, gravy, coffee, milk, salads, buns, hot mitts, tea towels, roasting pans, even a few holiday decorations, and so much more.  After that Thanksgiving in 2014 the Charity saw such a need and decided to expand to include Christmas and Easter.

Each holiday, the hampers are built strictly from donations from within the KDM Management office and when it comes time to prepare the hampers, the  Charity Board members volunteer their time to arrange all the items within the hamper and wrap them to prevent any item from falling out.   They even go the extra mile to deliver the hampers personally to the families in need.

The Board is happy to say that we are now on our 6th year of preparing these holiday hampers and plan on continuing this on for as long as there is a need for it.
